September is the month that we celebrate the National Congress in Liverpool, England – September 7-9.
The Bishops of England and Wales will hold this event and invite many speakers from around the world to address topics relating to the Eucharist from catechesis, preparing children for the sacraments, to the devotion of the Eucharist, to name just a few topics.
Eucharistic Congresses are gatherings of clergy, religious and laity which promote an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Church.
The last International Eucharistic Congress in England was held in 1908 when permission for a public procession of the Blessed Sacrament was refused.
Participants will engage in a series of sessions and forums focusing on different dimensions of the Eucharist and the daily celebration and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
Today the Eucharist is not as prevalent in lives of people as before so it is hoped that this Congress will revitalize a love of the Eucharist – we pray that it will not be just a week of discussion but of generating a true love of the Eucharist in our families, parishes and in our country.
